Local Authorities should designate officers to be involved in the management & oversight of individual cases. These are called 'Local Authority Desiganetd Officers' (or LADO)
The LADO provides advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisation, liaising with the police and other agencies, and monitoring the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible, consistent with a thorough and fair process.
Reference: Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2006 - Section 6.23
In the Rochdale Borough the LADO role is currently provided by the Conference & Reviewing Officers at the Safeguarding Children Unit. (0845 226 5500)
We will soon be appointing an individual LADO post so there is only one point of contact at the Safeguarding Children Unit.
